
A woman was killed, and two others were injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Umanpur on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway.
The accident occurred on Tuesday evening in the Umanpur area of Jaintapur upazila, where the auto-rickshaw was severely damaged in the impact.
The deceased has been identified as Jumara Begum, wife of Dulal Ahmed from village Baraband in Kanaighat upazila.
According to locals, a passenger bus heading towards Jaflong collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The crash left one female passenger dead on the spot, while the auto-rickshaw driver and another passenger sustained injuries.
The injured have been identified as Meherab, son of Dulal Ahmed, and the CNG driver, Nurul Islam. However, highway police confirmed that their condition is not critical.
Local people immediately rescued the injured and sent them to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Mohammad Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tamabil Highway Police, said, ‘Upon receiving the news, highway police rushed to the scene and completed the inquest report of the deceased. The process of handing over the body to the family is underway. Meanwhile, the bus involved in the accident has been towed and taken into police custody. Traffic on the highway is currently normal.’
