Since the start of 2022, Shoriful Islam has been Bangladesh鈥檚 third highest wicket taker in the ODIs with 51 scalps from 36 outings.
Yet, the left-arm pacer was not considered for the Bangladesh squad in the Champions Trophy, which starts on February 19.
The chief selector, Gazi Ashraf Hossain, cited Shoriful as being not fully fit for his omission from the 15-member squad.
Shoriful, though, was instrumental in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League as he took 17 wickets for Chittagong Kings.
Despite being one of the consistent performers in limited overs games in recent times, the selectors have had the luxury of not picking Shoriful as they have options now among the pacers.
The selectors chose Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan, and Nahid Rana for the Champions Trophy.
Taskin has been the leader of the pack for a time now in all three formats where he鈥檚 been available.
The right-arm pacer has been only second to Mehidy Hasan Miraz (55) in terms of taking wickets since 2022 in ODIs for Bangladesh.
Taskin also has had a wonderful BPL for Durbar Rajshahi, as he topped the chart with 25 wickets despite his team not reaching the playoffs.
Mustafizur Rahman, on the other hand, has had a quiet outing in the BPL for Dhaka Capitals. The left-arm pacer missed out on the last Caribbean tour for his paternity leave.
The 29-year-old pacer, though, was consistent in his last ODI series against Afghanistan, where he took eight wickets in three matches.
He wasn鈥檛 picked in the last IPL auction, where he had been a regular pick in recent times. The Champions Trophy could be the ideal stage for the left-armer to show the world that he鈥檚 still something to showcase.
Tanzim made his ODI debut in the 2023 Asia Cup against India, where Bangladesh registered a memorable win. He took 2-32 in 7.5 overs.
Tanzim didn鈥檛 make the cut for that year鈥檚 World Cup but took part only in one match against Sri Lanka. He played two matches in the latest series against West Indies but retained his place in the Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh鈥檚 most exciting prospect in the Champions Trophy would undoubtedly be Nahid Rana. The tall and lanky pacer has already announced his arrival in world cricket with his raw pace and immaculate sense of line and length.
Rana, though, was kind of overused by his BPL franchise, Rangpur Riders, where he played 12 matches. His pace dropped in the final phase of the tournament.
However, Bangladesh national team head coach Phil Simmons assured that Rana had found his mojo back ahead of the marquee event.
With a stable spin-bowling attack that comprises Mehidy, Nasum Ahmed, and Rishad Hossain, the pace bowling unit could be vital for Bangladesh to bring in any success.
Bangladesh will face India in their first match in Dubai on February 20 before moving to Rawalpindi for their last two group-stage matches, where they will take on New Zealand and host Pakistan on February 24 and 27, respectively.
The team is already in Dubai and began their practice. They are supposed to take part in a warm-up game against Pakistan Shaheens on Monday.
