Pratul Mukhopadhyay

Renowned Bengali singer and lyricist Pratul Mukhopadhyay passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata in India on Saturday.

He was 83.


According to media reports, Pratul’s daughter said that the singer had been suffering from various health complications since the beginning of the year.

Born in Barisal in British India on June 25, 1942, Pratul Mukhopadhyay, an unparalleled legacy in Bangla music, left for Kolkata after the partition of the Indian subcontinent.

Pratul Mukhopadhyay is best known for his soul-stirring compositions, including ‘Ami Banglar Gaan Gai’, ‘Dinga Bhasao Sagare’, ‘Alu Becho’, ‘Chhokra Chand’, ‘Tomar Ki Kono Tulana Hay’, ‘Sei Meyeti’ and ‘Februarir Ekush Tarikh’.
