The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday named Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the vice-captain of the national team for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy that starts in the UAE on February 19.
The 27-year-old all-rounder will be the deputy to Najmul Hossain Shanto for the upcoming eight-nation marquee event.
Mehidy, who has represented his country in 103 ODIs, has already captained the Tigers in Tests and ODIs on an interim basis.
He led Bangladesh in both ODIs and Tests in the team鈥檚 last Caribbean tour in the absence of injured Shanto.
The vice captaincy hasn鈥檛 been a regular post for the Bangladesh national team in the recent past.
Meanwhile, as reported earlier, pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed would travel to Dubai on Saturday to train with the Bangladesh Champions Trophy squad.
The bowlers will return home following Bangladesh鈥檚 opening match of the tournament against India in Dubai on February 20.
The 15-member squad, along with the officials, were supposed to depart for the UAE on Thursday night.
Bangladesh will then move to Pakistan for their last two group-stage matches scheduled on February 24 and 27 against New Zealand and Pakistan, respectively.
