Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Wednesday that they had never supported Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for its hypocritical characteristics.
鈥榃e have never supported Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Sheikh Mujib鈥檚 government had banned Jamaat,鈥� Rizvi said, adding that during the BNP government, they got the opportunity to do politics in Bangladesh.
鈥榃e have always seen that this party has one characteristic, which is hypocrisy,鈥� he said, while talking as chief guest at a commemorative meeting in Rajshahi.
Taherpur municipal BNP organised the meeting on Taherpur High School premises, commemorating the 23rd death anniversary of Baghmara upazila BNP鈥檚 founding president Abdul Wahed Ali Mondal.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that they all protested together in 1986 not to join the parliamentary elections under the Ershad-led government.
鈥楤egum Zia then said that they would not join the elections under Ershad. Ironically, within 24 hours, Jamaat joined the elections,鈥� he added.
The BNP leader said that a few days after the country鈥檚 youths and children had ousted a terrible monster like Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh following a student-led blood-stained movement, Jamaat said that they would forgive everything done by the Awami League.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said that it was very tragic for them when India became extremely dear to Jamaat.
Criticising India, he also questioned how Sheikh Hasina gave statements against Bangladesh from India when she did not have any passport or visa.
鈥業f Bangladesh gives shelter to an Indian miscreant, and from here, if that person does something against India, India will not remain silent.鈥� he said.
The BNP leader said that India complained to Pakistan every day about Daud Ibrahim, a miscreant from Bombay, on the allegation that he had connections with Pakistan.
Among others, BNP health affairs secretary Rafiqul Islam, Rajshahi divisional organising secretary Shahin Shawkat, Rajshahi district BNP convener Abu Sayed Chand and member secretary Bishwanath Sarker, Rajshahi city BNP convener Ershad Ali Isha and Mamunur Rashid spoke at the meeting with Taherpur municipal BNP president Abu Naim Md Shamsur Rahman Minu in the chair.
