Traffic chaos reigned parts of Dhaka on Wednesday due to a road blockade, political programmes and metro rail construction activities, causing immense sufferings to the residents of the capital.

In many places, traffic congestion was also created for illegal parking on roads that narrowed down the traffic movement.

They blocked the road at about 1:00pm and continued the blockade for six hours till 6:00pm.

Several hundred activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party were seen holding a procession at about 1:00pm on the day on Satmasjid Road at Dhanmondi, creating severe congestion in the area during the school hours.

According to BNP leaders, there were two major programmes of the party in the city 鈥 BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam鈥榮 meeting with Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna and a workshop of the BNP Adabor thana unit in Shekertek area.

At Badda, people were seen stuck in heavy traffic congestion as construction of the Metrorail Line-1 is underway in Pragati Sarani area.

鈥榃e have to face immense traffic congestion in the area. I required two and a half hours to reach Farmgate from Merul Badda,鈥 said Farhan Alam, a businessman living in the capital鈥檚 Merul Badda.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner for traffic Md Sarwar told 抖阴精品 that they had diverted vehicles to the other roads due to the blockade on Abdul Gani Road and it created pressure on the other roads.

鈥業ndiscriminate road digging at places, including airport road, Ramna and Pragati Sarani also causes traffic congestion,鈥 he added.

Near Moghbazar crossing, private cars and vehicles were seen parked in two lanes on the road in the absence of proper monitoring by the city traffic police personnel.

Sarwar said that their actions against illegal parking continued.
