At least four people were killed and 22 others injured in road accidents in Gopalganj and Jhalakathi between Wednesday night and Thursday.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that at least three people, including two college students, were killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj Sadar.


The accident took place when a bus collided head-on with a truck in Goshgati Bus Stand area on Thursday, leaving one dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

The police have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The injured were admitted to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital.

In another accident, two college students were killed when their motorbike fell into a roadside ditch on Wednesday night in Gopinathpur area in the district.

The deceased were Walid Khan, 19, and Siyam Mollah, 19. They were Class XII students and residents of Gopinathpur village under sadar upazila, said Gopalganj Sadar police station officer-in-charge Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman.

Meanwhile, the BSS reported that a man was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in the Khejurtala area under Nalchiti in Jhalakati on Thursday.

The deceased was M Bakiyar Molla, 35, a cleaner of Barishal Combined Military Hospital.

The accident occurred when a CNG-run auto rickshaw collided head-on with a truck, leaving three CNG passengers injured, said Nalchiti police station OC Abdus Salam.

The injured were sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barisal, where Bakiyar Molla succumbed to his injuries.

Later, injured Ariful Islam was shifted to Barisal CMH after emergency treatment, and CNG driver Babu was sent to Dhaka for better treatment, the OC said.
