A seminar titled Leviathan in the Levant: Exploring Crises in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria held at the Jahangirnagar University in Savar, Dhaka on Thursday.

The JU international relations and philosophy departments and Teachers-Students Centre jointly organised the seminar.


Palestinian thinker, educator, sociologist and international relations expert Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi delivered a special lecture on the geopolitical and economic impact of the Gaza genocide on the Middle East at the seminar.

JU teacher Muhammad Ullah presented a paper on 鈥楶olitics imprisoned in Palestine prognostication of new world order?鈥 while JU teachers Rashidul Islam and Irfan Sadik jointly presented a paper on 鈥楲eviathan(s) in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria: Biblical chaos or Hobbesian order?鈥 at the seminar.

Mentioning that Gaza genocide and the exposure of leviathanic power of Israel, discussants presented that around 50 thousand Palestinians have already been killed, and among them 70 per cent are women and children.

Noting that the new president of the United States Donald Trump claims himself to be a peacemaker but supports Israel in all its leviathanic ventures, the speakers said that the ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon was going on. 鈥楽o is Leviathan鈥檚 action as a monster waiting for its next prey.鈥

They also presented that the main challenger of Israeli power in the region, Iran, had been significantly weakened. 鈥業t will take time for Iran to rebuild the network between her and the groups like Hamas and Hezbollah in the absence of at least 鈥渁 willing regime in Damascus鈥.鈥

Chaired by the JU history department professor Mohammad Golam Rabbani, JU international relations chairperson Tasmia Persoob delivered welcome speech at the seminar, which was moderated by the JU philosophy department chairperson Professor Munir Hossain Talukder.

The seminar also featured recitation of poems.聽 Writer-translator and JU English department professor Ahmed Reza, poets Talukder Lovely, Mahmuda Akhter and Iqbal Khorshed recited poems at the event.
