A pregnant woman died while undergoing treatment at the Women and Children Hospital in the capital’s Uttara on Tuesday allegedly for wrong treatment.
The victim is Shanta Islam, 38, wife of Rubel Miah of the capital’s Khilkhet area.
According to the victim’s family members, Shanta was admitted to the hospital Tuesday morning for an abortion as the doctors confirmed that her foetus died in the womb.
Hours later, the hospital authorities informed the family that she had died, they said.
Md Kakon, a relative of the deceased, claimed that the hospital staff admitted that Shanta died due to a ‘medical error’.
He also alleged that the attending physician and hospital staff, after the surgery, left the facility without addressing the situation.
The hospital authorities could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts over the phone.Â
Uttara Police Station sub-inspector Sujan Datta said that they, after receiving information, visited the hospital but found none of the officials available to speak.
Legal action will be taken if the victim’s family files a case, he said.
