A Bangladeshi short film titled Sauda won the Best International Short Film Award at the sixth Nepal Cultural International Film Festival 2025, said a press release issued on Sunday.

The festival was jointly organised by Nepal Culture and Film Centre and the Film Development Board, Nepal in Kathmandu from January 30 to February 1 with the slogan ‘Sustainable Development through Film, Culture, Art, Tourism, and Creativity’.


The three-day festival showcased 98 semifinalist films selected from 204 submissions across 47 countries which address critical global issues including human rights, social issues, environmental conservation and cultural heritage to celebrate the power of cinema to inspire positive change.

Produced by Chilekotha Production, and directed by Fakir Biplob, film Sauda was adapted from a short story authored by Bappy Khan that portrayed how circumstances force people to take immoral decisions.

Actor Shahed Ali, Shanarei Devi Shanu, Sagar Barua, Rowdro Kanan and Ershad Ali portrayed different characters of the film and Kamruzzaman Tumon was the cinematographer of the production.

Earlier, the film premiered at the Kolkata Ramdhanu International Film Festival 2024 and participated in many international festivals.

The film will also be screened at the fifth Bogura International Film Festival on February 21.
