
Today is the 79th anniversary of birth of folk singer and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Indra Mohan Rajbongshi.
Born on January 26, 1946, Indra Mohan Rajbongshi joined the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in the War of Independence.
After the independence of the country, he joined the Government Music College in 1974.
During his six-decade career, he presented jatra, palagaan, Tagore song and folk songs, and won the hearts of music lovers singing songs, including Haate Mathe Ghate Bate, Asol Sadhu Haila Na, Amar Dukher Din and Maner Majhe Maner Manush.
Besides, he launched Tagore albums under the headers Sardhashata Janmatsab-e Shraddhanjali and Dersho Bachhar Aage.
In 1998, Rajbongshi established a folk organisation named Bangladesh Lok Sangeet Parishad to practice, preserve and promote folk songs.
He also rendered songs for many Bangla films. He was awarded the best singer by the Bangladesh Cine Journalist Association in 1976 for lending his voice to playback songs for Amjad Hossain-directed film Nayan Mani.
For his contribution to music, he received several awards, including Ekushey Padak, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Award and World Master Certificate Award in South Korea.
Indra Mohan Rajbongshi died of Covid on April 7, 2021.
