
The nine-day Dhaka International Film Festival concluded with Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury-directed film titled Boli at the auditorium of National Museum at Shahbagh in Dhaka on Sunday.
The closing ceremony began with a dance performance of Jol Torongo Dance Crew. Directed and choreographed by Farhad Ahmed Shamim, the production depicts the diverse culture of Bangladesh.
Cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki attended the event as chief guest.
Moderated by the DIFF director Ahmed Muztaba Zamal, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission chairman Jalal Ahmed presided over the event.
Mentioning that proper venues, projections and sound systems are the essential needs for the DIFF, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said that a film festival invited filmmakers and artistes to make dialogues.
‘Only screening is not enough for a proper functional film festival. We plan to make a permanent venue for organising film festivals,’ he added, mentioning that the cultural affairs ministry would like to organise a film festival.
Farooki also handed over prize among the winners of different categories of the festival.
Shankha Dasgupta-directed full-length film titled Priyo Maloti won the FIPRESCI Award in Bangladesh Panorama Section while Monon Muntaka-directed short film titled A Lazy Noon won the FIPRESCI Award in the Talent Section.
In the talent section, Aasif U Hamid-directed short film titled Phulera Poshak Parena won the first runner-up and Mobarak Hossain-directed Paitrik Bhita achieved second runner-up award. Â
Russian filmmaker Michael Lukachevsky-directed film titled Where the White Cranes Dance won Badal Rahman Award in Children Category.
Filipino filmmaker Joselito Altarejos-directed film titled The Guardian of Honour won Special Audience Award while Indian Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji-directed film titled Padatik won the Best Audience Award. Â Â
The event also handed over awards in different categories, including Women Filmmaker Section, Asian Film Competition Section and Spiritual Film Section.
