A youth was stabbed to death, and another injured in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, following a dispute over the repayment of a loan Saturday night.
The deceased is Md Abdur Rahman Hridoy, 24, a carpenter from ward no-7 of Chowmuhani Municipality under the upazila.
Md Rifat, the victim鈥檚 younger brother, alleged that Babu, 35, son of Shah Alam from Muri Bari in the Golabari area, had borrowed Tk 5,000 from Hridoy鈥檚 friend Ashik but refused to repay, offering excuses. When Ashik informed his elder brother Roni about the matter, Babu became angry and detained two of Ashik鈥檚 friends, Hossain and Sagor.
Upon hearing about the situation, Hridoy and his uncle Rusel went to rescue the detained friends. They encountered Babu in front of the land office at about 11:45pm, where Babu attacked them with a knife, Rifat added.
Later, they were taken to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared Hridoy dead upon arrival.
Sub-inspector Khokon Chandra Ghosh, in charge of Chowmuhani police out-post, stated that Hridoy鈥檚 body had been sent to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem.
Rusel, who was found unconscious, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
