A Juba Dal activist was killed as two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party allegedly clashed at Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram on Monday night.
The deceased is Md Munna, 22, son of Abdul Mannan, hailed from North Govania area of the Mirsarai municipality.
The victim鈥檚 family has filed a murder case over the incident early Tuesday, naming 11 individuals as accused in the case.
After the incident, police arrested four suspects, including the convener of the local Juba Dal unit.
The arrested are Kamrul Hasan, 37, convener of Mirsarai Municipal Juba Dal, Md Nazmus Sakib Maruf, 22, Md Shah Alam, 47, and Md Arman, 26.
The incident took place at around 11:00pm near Mirsarai Girls鈥� High School, adjacent to the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, said Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Mirsarai police.
Munna was an activist of the municipality Juba Dal, said Zahid Hossain, member secretary of the Mirsarai municipality BNP.聽
Seven more activists were also injured in the incident.
The injured are Md Arafat, 23, Asif, 21, Hasan, 21, Sajib, 20, Rahat, 24, Rashed, 22, and Hridoy, 21.
Munna was attacked with sharp weapons on Monday night, OC Atiqur Rahman said, adding that he was taken to a hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
鈥榃e conducted raids overnight and detained four individuals, including Kamrul Hasan, in connection with the murder.鈥�
The clash took place allegedly between the followers of Zahid Hossain, member secretary of the Mirsarai municipal BNP, and Kamrul Hasan, convener of the municipal Jubo Dal, resulting in the death of one youth, the OC said.
Tensions have been escalating between supporters of the two leaders for a long time, and it is believed that the ongoing rivalry led to this murder, the OC said.
The victim鈥檚 family has filed a murder case, naming 11 individuals as the plaintiff in the incident, the OC said, adding that operations are on to arrest the other suspects.
The situation in the area is currently calm, the OC added.
According鈥檚 to local people, a clash began after an argument between the followers of Mirsarai municipal BNP member secretary Zahid Hossain and Juba Dal convenor Kamrul Hasan鈥檚 supporters at the trade fair in the evening.
Kamrul Hasan鈥檚 follower was injured in the clash.
Later that night, at around 10:00pm, Kamrul鈥檚 supporters retaliated by attacking Zahid Hossain鈥檚 house and his followers. During the attack, Md Munna, allegedly a supporter of Zahid, was severely injured near Mirsarai Girls鈥� High School.
