Bangladesh University Grants Commission chairman Professor SMA Faiz at a conference in Pakistan on Tuesday called for joint work to build an effective ecosystem for research and innovation in higher education institutions in the South Asian region.

He said this while addressing the conference titled Promoting South Regional Cooperation in Higher Education in Islamabad, Pakistan, said a press release.


On the first day of the three-day conference, the UGC chairman chaired a session titled Higher Education for Economic Development: Orienting Higher Education to the Twenty-First Century Labour Market (Bangladesh Experience).

In his speech, he pledged to provide all kinds of cooperation on behalf of the UGC to create a suitable environment for commercialisation of research and innovation in higher education institutions of South Asian countries.

He also emphasised on creating cooperative relationships with higher education institutions, conducting applied research and working in a coordinated manner to implement innovative ideas.

A nine-member delegation led by the UGC chairman is participating in this higher education conference organised jointly by the World Bank and the Pakistan Higher Education Commission.
