Masked and helmeted miscreants attacked and vandalised the houses of two local leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Barishal Wednesday night.

The houses of Barishal city BNP joint convener Zahirul Islam Litu and former joint convener Syed Akbar were targeted after 8:00pm, confirmed Kawnia police station officer-in-charge Nazmul Nishat.

Syed Akbar reported that the miscreants, wearing helmets and masks, arrived on 20–25 motorcycles and attacked his home using sharp weapons and hockey sticks. The attackers shattered the house’s window glass before fleeing.

Akbar stated that legal action in that connection would be considered after consultation.

Eyewitness Amzad Hossain said that the miscreants came from the Nazir’s Pole area and attacked Litu’s residence. They entered the property, vandalised two motorcycles, and caused further damages.

Zahirul Islam Litu recounted that his wife and two children were present during the attack, leaving them frightened.

He added that appropriate legal measures regarding the incident would be pursued.

Former member secretary of the Barishal city BNP, Mir Jahidul Kabir, condemned the attacks, describing them as cowardly acts.

He said that the perpetrators had not yet been identified. If any party members were found involved, the central BNP leadership would be informed for disciplinary action.

OC Nazmul Nishat confirmed that the assailants remained unidentified, adding, ‘Authorities will take action following a formal complaint.’
