
Cultural troupe Bibartan Sangskritik Kendra premiered its production titled Kritadas Katha at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Former Jahangirnagar University economics professor Anu Muhammad inaugurated the premiere show.
Cultural counsellor of the China embassy to Bangladesh Li Shaopeng and secretary general of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Kamal Bayazid spoke as guests at the inaugural ceremony, which was chaired by president of Bibartan Sanskritik Kendra ASM Kamaluddin.
The play, an adaptation of Chinese writer Lu Xun’s story titled The Wise, The Fool and The Slave, is the 17th production of the troupe, which has been adapted by Amal Ray and directed by Shahin Rahman.
The play depicts how working class people specially factory workers being exploited in the capitalist economy in the modern times along with slavery in ancient times.Â
‘Lu Xun symbolically portrays the class struggle of human civilisation through the slavery system. We have adapted the play focusing on the contemporary times,’ said Shahin Rahman.Â
The members of Bibartan, including Mafijur Rahman Laltu, Gazi Alauddin Raufur Rahaman, Taniah Mahmuda Tinni and Sohag Paramanik have played different characters in the play.
