
Artist Manik Dey has portrayed the struggle of working class people, beauty of simple life and the rural landscapes of the country in his first solo art exhibition under way at the Gallery Chitrak at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
The exhibition titled Color Should Touch My Spirit is featuring 70 artworks created with acrylic, oil, watercolor and charcoal on canvas and paper between 2016 and 2024.Â
The artworks of the artist displayed in the exhibition ‘Jiban Chabi’, ‘Bhasman Jiban’, ‘Pratiksha’, ‘Shramer Kabya’, ‘Shilper Karigar’ and ‘Aatpaure Ghar’ show the daily life and struggle of working class people.
Besides, the artworks under the headers Payra Utsab, Jharer Purbabhas, Matritwa, Shaishab and Godhuli depict the beauty of animal and nature.
An etching print titled Parajay, the artist 1992 artwork, displayed in the exhibition, depicts a hungry boy sleeping on the street.
An oil painting titled Baul shows a mystic singer playing an acoustic musical instrument ektara at a village street, while a charcoal drawing titled Bishram shows a herd of buffalo taking rest.
Graduated from the graphic design department of Dhaka University, Manik Dey joined the Bangladesh Television as a graphic designer in 1980.Â
The 26-day exhibition was inaugurated on December 6, and will end on Tuesday.
