The 11th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League began on Monday amidst controversy, as players had not yet received their payments from the respective franchises.

According to the rules, a franchise is required to pay 50 per cent of the total payment before the league begins.

An additional 25 per cent of the payment must be made during the tournament, with the final portion to be paid after the league. However, the criterion has not been met so far.

‘We haven’t got our remunerations yet. No one has,’ said Durbar Rajshahi captain Anamul Haque.

Three of the seven franchises, along with Rajshahi, are new this season. According to the rules, BCB takes a bank guarantee from the franchise in case some anomaly happens.

However, it was reported that only Fortune Barishal have completed the procedure.

There are many past incidents where the BPL franchises didn’t pay the players, but Anamul remained hopeful that BCB would take the necessary steps to solve the issue.

‘We want to take the BPL positively. The owners won’t go away without paying [us]. Or, the BCB will take steps. I hope they will arrange it properly,’ said the batter.

‘They will go away without paying? Then there will be BCB to sort it out.’Â
