
Today is the first anniversary of death of poet, fiction writer and essayist Abubakar Siddique.
Born on August 19, 1934 at Gotapara in Bagerhat, Abubakar Siddique got admitted to the Bangla department of the University of Dhaka and obtained his master’s degree in 1958.
He wrote 20 collections of poems, 15 collections of stories, and four novels, among others.
The author depicted the verisimilitude of reality in his literary works such as ‘Jalrakshas’, ‘Kharadah’, ‘Bhoomihin Desh’, ‘More Banchar Swadhinata’ and ‘Charbinashkal’.
His other literary works include Dhabal Dudher Swargram, Barudpora Prahar and Ekattarer Hridaybhasma.
For his contribution to Bangla literature, he received the Bangla Academy Literary Award, Bangladesh Kathashilpi Sangsad Award, Bangladesh Lekhika Sangha Award, Khulna Sahitya Parishad Award and Bagerhat Foundation Award.
Abubakar Siddique passed away on December, 28 2023 in Khulna.
