
Promoted Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club tasted their maiden win in the Bangladesh Premier League, defeating Chittagong Abahani 2-0 at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Saturday.Â
This is the first time that the 64-year-old club, who lost their first three games in the league, is participating in the country’s top-flight league since its inception in 2007.
In the day’s play, local forward Sayed Hossen Sayem gave Fakirerpool the lead in the 55th minute before their Uzbekistani midfielder Sardor Jakmonov doubled the margin in the stoppage time of the game.Â
It was also a good day for another promoted side, Dhaka Wanderers Club, as they earned their first point of the league after a 1-1 draw with Fortis Football Club at the Kings Arena in the city.
Fortis avoided their second defeat of the league when their Ukrainian forward Valerii Hryshyn restored the parity in the 52nd minute after the Wanderers’ forward Sakib Bepari gave his side the lead in the 37th minute.Â
In the day’s another match, Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society moved to second place of the table with a 3-1 win over Brothers Union at the Birshreshtha Flight Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.Â
Ghanaian forward Samuel Boateng scored a brace while local forward Nabib Newaz Jibon added once for Rahmatganj.Â
Senegalese forward Cheikh Sene pulled one goal back for Brothers, scoring from the penalty spot.Â
Samuel gave Rahmatganj the lead in the second minute of the match before Brothers’ equalised through Sene in the 70th minute.
Brothers suffered a big blow as they were down to 10 men with their key forward, Sazzad Hossen, seeing a straight red card three minutes later.Â
With a man advantage, Rahmatganj regained the lead in the 80th minute through Jibon before Samuel scored his second in stoppage time.Â
With the day’s results, Rahmatganj had nine points from four games while Brothers were in fourth place with seven points and Fortis in seventh place with five points.Â
Eighth-placed Fakirerpool came out of the relegation zone with three points, followed by winless Wanderers with one point and Ctg Abahani with zero points, respectively.Â
