At least seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Bagerhat, Dinajpur and Rajshahi from Thursday evening to Friday.

Three youths were killed as a car hit an electrical pole along Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet on Friday morning, reported ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet.


The deceased are Tahmid Ahmed, 20, Tahmid’s cousin Mahin, 17, and Hafizur Rashid, 19, police said.

Tamabil Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Habibur Rahman said that the accident took place near the tourist spot Jaflong at around 10:30am when a Sylhet-bound private car hit an electric pole after its driver lost control over the steering.

‘The car was smashed after hitting the electric pole leaving four passengers, including its driver, critically injured,’ the police officer said.

He said that Tahmid and Mahin died on the spot immediately after the accident while Hafizur died at noon after being admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

In Bagerhat, a truck driver was killed in a road accident in the Godaown Amtola area on the Bagerhat-Pirojpur regional highway under the sadar upazila on Friday, reported Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

The deceased is Shamim Sarder, 45, hailed from Morrelganj upazila in the district.

The accident took place when two trucks collided head-on in the area leaving truck driver Shamim dead on the spot and another injured.

Critically injured truck driver was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

The body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police seized the vehicles from the spot.

United News of Bangladesh reported that at least three people were killed in separate road accidents in two districts on Thursday and Friday.

In Dinajpur’s Birganj upazila, two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with a truck on Friday morning.

The accident occurred at around 8:30am in the Kabirajhat area, said Abdul Gafur, officer-in-charge of Birganj police station.

Madhav Roy, 19, died on the spot, while Dipu Roy, 22, succumbed to his injuries at the Upazila Health Complex.

In Rajshahi’s Charghat upazila, a head-on collision between a truck and three motorcycles left one youth dead on the spot on Thursday evening.

Charghat model police station inspector Abdul Khalek said that the accident occurred in front of Charghat Technical College and School at around 7:00pm.

The deceased is Prabhat, 32, hailed from Gaur Shaharpur village.
