Fortis Football Club stunned treble winners and defending champions Bashundhara Kings with a 2-0 win in their Group A second match of the Federation Cup at the Kings Arena on Tuesday.Â
It was Fortis’ maiden win over the five-time Bangladesh Premier League champions in their seven meetings in domestic competitions.
This was Kings’ second loss this season, following their 1-0 defeat to Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Bangladesh Premier League on December 6.Â
In the day’s play, Uzbekistan defender Jasur Jumaev and defender forward Md Abdullah scored once each in the second half to give Fortis the lead in the five-team table with four points from two games.Â
Jumaev headed home the ball on a corner from the right side by Ukrainian forward Valerii Hryshyan in the 71st minute.Â
Fortis doubled the margin in the 78th minute when forward Piash Ahmed Nova provided a short pass to Abdullah, who coolly carried the ball inside the box before slotting it into the net.Â
Fortis, who lost to Abahani Limited 3-1 in the quarter-finals of this competition last season, began their campaign with a goalless draw against Police Football Club on December 3.Â
In the day’s other Fed Cup tie in Mymensingh, Brothers Union taught Dhaka Wanderers a footballing lesson with a thumping 8-0 win at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, where Gambian forward Mustapha Drammeh and Sazzad Hossain each slammed a hat trick.
Apart from Mustapha (25th, 65th, 70th) and Sazzad (29th, 48th, 82nd), midfielder Kawsar Ali Rabbi (eighth) and forward Eleta Kingsleay (in the third minute of the stoppage time) scored the other two goals.Â
