The Bangladesh Nationalist Party called upon the chief adviser to discuss with all the political parties and take the necessary steps to build national unity to resolve the ongoing crisis.
A delegation led by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called on chief adviser to the interim government Muhammad Yunus at his official residence Jamuna on Wednesday.
‘The main purpose of our visit today was to inform the chief adviser about the party’s concerns regarding the recent situation, especially the law and order situation, the ISKCON situation, the problems of some colleges. We hope that the chief adviser with his council will quickly arrange a peaceful solution to the issues,’ Fakhrul told reporters after the meeting.
The BNP leaders held the meeting with the chief adviser at a time when various groups were rallying in Dhaka and elsewhere across the country protesting at the killing of a lawyer on the Chattogram court premises during a clash between law enforcement agencies and followers of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna, who was sent to jail in a sedition case on Tuesday.
The BNP secretary general said that division should not be created in the country. ‘National unity is most needed at the moment to solve the ongoing crisis.’
‘We have big challenges ahead of us. We need to build national unity to face those challenges,’ he added.
Fakhrul also said that difficult challenges were ahead, now there was no alternative to unity.
BNP appealed to the chief adviser to be vigilant so that no division is created in the country, he said.
He said that the BNP has called upon the interim government to give the roadmap for elections after the necessary reforms.
‘We have informed about the sufferings of the people. We have also highlighted the issue of commodity prices in particular, so that they work to reduce the price of goods,’ he said.
Meanwhile, the chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the chief adviser urged everyone to remain calm, besides solving the crisis through national unity.
The 5-member delegation of BNP entered the chief adviser’s residence at Jamuna at about 6:00pm and held the meeting for about one and a half hours.
BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salauddin Ahmed were present at the meeting.
