The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has suspended all judicial proceedings on Sunday to honour the passing of former Chief Justice Md Ruhul Amin, who died early in the morning at a city hospital.

Justice Ruhul Amin, the 15th Chief Justice of Bangladesh, served from March 1, 2007, to May 31, 2008. He passed away at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka due to age-related complications, the Supreme Court鈥檚 public relations office stated in a press release.


His namaz-e-janaza will take place in the Supreme Court鈥檚 inner garden after the Zuhr prayer on November 26, according to the statement.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed expressed profound grief over the death of his predecessor, offering condolences to the bereaved family and praying for the departed soul.

As a mark of respect, judicial proceedings of the Supreme Court will remain suspended on Sunday, following established tradition. However, the registrar鈥檚 office will continue its administrative functions as scheduled.

Born on June 1, 1941, in Lakshmipur district, Justice Ruhul Amin completed his Master鈥檚 in Political Science and a Law degree from Dhaka University in 1965.

He began his legal career as an advocate at the High Court in 1966 and was elevated to the Appellate Division in 1981. Justice Ruhul Amin was appointed as a judge of the High Court Division on February 18, 1992, and as a judge of the Appellate Division on January 11, 2001.

Justice Ruhul Amin leaved behind a legacy of dedication to the judiciary, marked by integrity and service to the rule of law.
