A group of leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student body of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, allegedly beat up a student in Rajshahi city on Thursday.
The injured, Sohel Rana, a marketing final year student of Rajshahi College, is now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Sohel Rana, who claimed himself as a coordinator of Students鈥� Movement Against Discrimination in Rajshahi, said that a group of Rajshahi College JCD men equipped with hammers, iron rods, and sticks attacked him near the circuit house while he was returning from a meeting of the Students鈥� Movement Against Discrimination.
鈥楢s I started shouting for help, the JCD men fled away leaving me injured,鈥� he said, adding that the JCD men beat him up again near Madrasah field and broke his left hand while he was heading toward the RMCH by a rickshaw.
Rajshahi College JCD convener Khalid Bin Walid Abir, however, denied the allegation and claimed that leaders of the Students鈥� Movement Against Discrimination beat Sohel, who was a JaSod Chhatra League leader, as the latter was demanding extortion from people by identifying himself as a coordinator.
