Rajshahi City Corporation dismissed its 159 master-roll employees and served show cause notices on 38 other officials and employees on various allegations including irregularities, corruption and taking a stand against student-led anti-discrimination movement.

The master-roll employees were dismissed from their services in five phases between September 10 and October 29 while the show-cause notices were served in two phases on September 15 and November 12 respectively, officials said.


RCC administrator and Rajshahi divisional commissioner Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir said that they had relieved the master-roll employees for their anti-disciplinarily behaviour and unsatisfactory performance.

‘We have also served show cause notices to some permanent and temporary officials and employees for their involvement in various irregularities, corruption, and anti-disciplinary activities,’ he added.

According to the officials, among the 38 who were served show-cause notices, 17 are permanent officials and employees of the city corporation while the rest 21 are temporary officials and employees.

RCC chief revenue officer Abu Saleh Md Nur-E-Sayed, executive engineer (electrical) ABM Asaduzzaman Sweet, accounting officer Nijamul Hoda, public relation officer Mostafizur Rahman and deputy chief conservancy officer Selim Reza Ronzu are among the accused permanent officials.

Contacted, Nur-E-Sayed said that baseless and fabricated allegations were brought against him in the show-cause notice served to him. He, however, did not want to mention what the allegations were.

Besides, RCC has also suspended two Awami League leaders – RCC Karmachari Union president Dulal Sheikh and general secretary Ajmir Ahmed Mamun.
