
People from all walks of life on Sunday staged a sit-in demanding resumption of the operation of Uttara Express Train to ease sufferings of people.
About one hundred of them staged the sit-in at Rajshahi Railway Station at about 10:00pm to press home their demand.
Addressing the sit-in, the speakers said that the previous government suspended the operation of Uttara Express Train for fear of sabotage on December 22 in 2023, causing immense sufferings to the people travelling on the Parbatipur-Rajshahi route.
They urged the authorities concerned to resume the operation of the train within the next fifteen days, saying that they will go for a tougher movement if their demand is not met.
Among others, Consumers Association of Bangladesh Rajshahi district unit general secretary Golam Mostafa Mamun, Rajshahi Raksha Sangram Parishad adviser and Daily Sonar Desh editor Akbarul Hasan Millat, Rajshahi Press Club president SM Shaju, Rajshahi Raksha Sangram Parishad general secretary Jamat Khan, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon Rajshahi district unit organising secretary Ziaul Gani Selim, and Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik Rajshahi district unit general secretary Mahmudul Alam spoke at the sit-in programme.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the railway adviser through western railway manager Mamunul Islam.
