
Miscreants set the village home of former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya in Chandpur, Bangladesh on fire Saturday night.
Inspector Nurul Karim, in-charge of Matlab North fire service and civil defence, said that the fire broke out at the ground floor of two buildings in Mohonpur under Uttor Matlab upazila at about 11:00pm. Later, the fire spread soon.
The miscreants also ransacked the buildings and looted valuables.
On information, a firefighting unit with the help of army and police brought the fire under control.
Pradeep, officer-in-charge of Uttor Matlab police station, said that the process was on to take legal steps in this connection.
Former senior vice-president of upazila unit BNP Sarwar Majumdar condemned the fire incident.
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, presidium member of Awami League has been on the run since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5.
He is wanted in different cases filed with different police stations in Chandpur, Narayanganj and Dhaka.
