Theatre activists staged street plays protesting at attacks on a protest rally at a cultural programme organised by theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal in front of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday.
The programme titled Pathanatak Pradarshoni began with Aranyak group songs.
The event was organised after the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s decision to stop the Desh Natok production Nityapuran’s show for security concerns and attack on a protest rally.
The chief secretary of Aranyak, Shamima Shawket, delivered a welcome speech at the event where Azad Abul Kalam and Masum Reza spoke.
Theatre troupe Prachyanat staged a play titled Speak Out based on the concept of Bijoy Majumder which was dramatised by Jaganmoy Paul and directed by Kazi Toufikul Islam Emon.
Aranyak also staged a play titled Murkho Loker Murkho Kotha written and directed by Mannan Hira.
‘Street plays always stand against fascism and sectarian violence. After the July mass uprising, nationwide cultural activities have been almost stopped, which is not expected as cultural activists actively participated in the movement,’ Azad Abul Kalam said, adding that they demand security for cultural events. The BSA proposed to re-stage the postponed show of the Desh Natok production Nityapuran, said Masum Reza.
