Ramzan Ali and Abu Hossain, two brothers of Begum Rokeya University’s martyred student Abu Sayeed, who was shot dead by the police during the anti-discrimination student movement, left the jobs of Bashundhara Group.

The siblings sent their resignation letters on November 8 to the Bashundhara Group authorities through e-mail while they also sent the letters through post office on Tuesday, citing personal reasons, said Ramzan Ali.


He also told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that ‘We could not attend the workplace due to personal and family problems, so we cannot take salary without work and so we quit the jobs.’

Earlier, on October 9, Bashundhara Group employed Ramzan Ali and Abu Hossain as executive officers of Bangladesh Pratidin and television channel News24 respectively.

On behalf of Bashundhara Group, East West Media Group executive director Yasin Hossain Pavel handed over letters of appointment to them at their home in Pirganj of Rangpur.

On October 10, Sumi Khatun, the sister of Abu Sayeed, also got a job at Begum Rokeya University.

Abu Sayeed, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and an English Department student of Begum Rokeya University, was shot dead by the police during the student movement on July 16.

After his death, the video of shooting Sayeed by police members near his university went viral on social media that triggered protests across the country.

Later on, the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina fell on August 5 in the face of the student-led mass uprising.
