The police on Wednesday exhumed bodies of two people killed during protests led by the Students Movement Against Discrimination from their graves for post-mortem examinations in Mymensingh.

The bodies of deceased student Abdullah Al Mahin, 19, and ready-made garment worker Nazmul Islam Raju, 39, were exhumed in the presence of executive magistrates Mohammad Al Imran and SM Najmus Shaleheen as per the order of the court for the sake of investigation.


Mahin’s body was exhumed from Bhatikashar graveyard in Mymensingh city. He was shot dead in front of the Rajuk Commercial Complex at Azampur of Uttara in Dhaka during the students’ movement in August.

On August 21, Mahin’s father, Jamil Hossain, filed a case against 600 people, including Sheikh Hasina and 17 others, with the Uttara West police station.

Mahin is the only son of Jamil Hossain and Samira Jahan. After passing Secondary School Certificate exam from Uttara Diabari Model High School, Mahin was enrolled at National Institute of Engineering and Technology.

The body of RMG worker Nazmul Islam Raju was exhumed from the Kalibari graveyard of the Mymensingh city on the same day.

On August 5, Nazmul was shot dead in front of the Uttara East police station while taking part in a joyous procession following the fall of the Awami League government.

The victim’s younger brother, Rezaul, filed a murder case with the Uttara East police station after the fall of the AL government on August 25 against 85 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Nazmul Islam Raju is son of late Nilu Mia of Sehra Munhsibari area in Mymensingh city. He was the eldest of two brothers and a sister.

Mymensingh Kotwali model police station officer-in-charge Safiqul Islam Khan said that members of the Criminal Investigation Department and the police station were present during the exhumation of the bodies.

After exhumation, the bodies were sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital mortuary for autopsies, he said.
