
Speakers at an international conference in Dhaka have emphasised that research plays a significant role in advancing a nation, and the stronger the research, the greater the progress a nation will make.
The also emphasised the importance of creating new knowledge, fostering innovation, and driving intellectual transformation to achieve sustainable development in the concluding day’s remarks of a two-day conference titled Innovation and Transformation for Development held at the Green University of Bangladesh campus at Purbachal American City in Dhaka on Sunday.
Organised by the GUB’s faculty of arts and social sciences, the concluding day featured various events, including research paper presentations, panel discussions, and cultural programmes.
Chaired by the GUB faculty of arts and social sciences dean Professor M Shahidullah, the conference featured scholars and researchers from the United States, Australia, and Bangladesh, among others.
The GUB vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Shorif Uddin, pro-VC Professor Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, treasurer Professor Md Fayzur Rahman, among others, delivered special speeches at the conference.
In the afternoon, a panel discussion was held featuring academics and industry professionals from the fields of English, media, and sociology and anthropology.
The discussion also highlighted the application of research and various issues regarding the transformed state of Bangladesh.
Expressing hope that the GUB’s conference would significantly contribute to advancing the objective, Professor Mohammad Shorif Uddin remarked that universities not only taught but also conducted essential research.
‘Education and research go hand in hand, and one cannot exist without the other,’ he mentioned.
Professor Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed encouraged not only the faculty but also all university members, especially students, to engage more in research.
The opening day of the conference featured Bangla Academy president Professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Haque as chief guest.
The conference convener Professor M Shahidullah thanked everyone involved in organising the event and highlighted its successful conclusion, said a press release on Monday.
