Different political parties on Thursday observed November 7, Sepoy People Mass Revolution Day, demanding restoration of democratic rule in the country and formation of a bicameral parliament.

Leaders of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD at a discussion urged restoration of democratic rule and formation of a bicameral parliament in the country.

JSD, a partner of the Ganatantra Mancha, organised the discussion at its central office at Gulistan where its sanding committee member Siraj Miah chaired.

General secretary of the party, Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, demanded reforms of the ruling system, restoration of democracy and formation of a bicameral parliament in the country.

After victory of the students and people movement on August 5, scope for democratic transition was created, Shapon said while speaking at the Sipoy People Mass Revolution Day discussion.

Former standing committee member of the party,  Nurul Akhter, central leaders Syed Belayet Hossain Belal, Lokman Hakim and others spoke at the discussion.

Politicians, meanwhile, on Thursday at a discussion in Dhaka demanded restoration of democratic rule in the country after holding a free, fair and credible general election.

The interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus should give the next general election as early as possible after carrying out some reforms needed for holding the next general election in a credible manner, they said.

The 12-Party Alliance organised the discussion at Abdus Salam Hall to mark November 7, National Revolution and Solidarity Day, where Jatiya Party faction chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider chaired.

At the discussion, Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said that after the fall of fascist Sheikh Hasina rule on August 7 scope was created for democratic transformation of the country.

‘We have supported formation of the interim government for holding the next general election after implementing

some required reforms and that the government should not take much time in the name of holding reforms,’ Nazrul Islam Khan said.

After the election, the elected government would perform more reforms so that fascist rule could not be evolved in the country further, Nazrul said.

Mostafa Jamal Haider said that the country was passing a period of transition after victory of the students and people movement on August 5.

‘Now we need to forge a greater unity for implementation of democratic transformation so that it could not fail,’ Mostafa Jamal Haider said.

The spirits of November 7 revolution was formation of unity between the military and people for establishing democracy in the country and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was the leader of that revolution in 1975, Mostafa Jamal Haider  said.

Central leaders of the 12-Party Alliance, Syed Ehsanul Huda, Golam Mohiuddin, Shah Ahmed Badal and others spoke at the discussion.
