Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of Bangladesh’s final two ODIs against Afghanistan after sustaining a finger injury in the first ODI at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

A BCB media release on Thursday said that the 37-year-old wicket-keeper batter sustained the injury while keeping towards the end of the first innings of the match, where Bangladesh lost by massive 92 runs.

‘Towards the end of Afghanistan’s batting innings, Mushfiqur injured the tip of his left index finger while keeping wickets. An X-ray after the match has confirmed a fracture on his left index near the DIP joint,’ national team physio Delowar Hossain was quoted as saying in the press release provided by the BCB.

‘He is under conservative management and is not available for the second and third ODIs. Further updates on his condition and expected recovery period will be provided in due course’, he added.

BCB, though, didn’t name a replacement for Mushfiq. It is likely that Jaker Ali will take the gloves who previously kept wicket for Bangladesh nine times. There is also Zakir Hasan in the squad who keeps wicket in the domestic circuit.

Mushfiq, who came to bat at number seven, scored only one before being dismissed by mystery spinner Allah Ghazanfar, who took 6-26.

Mushfiq’s injury came as the latest blow for Bangladesh after another wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das, missed the series due to fever.

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan opted out of the series for his lack of mental and physical fitness.

The second and third matches of the series will be held at the same venue on November 9 and 11, respectively.Â
