A task force led by the Border Guard Bangladesh seized huge consignments of smuggled goods worth more than Tk 8 crore during a drive that continued from Monday night to Tuesday morning along the Sylhet border.

The taskforce, comprising representatives from the local administration and police, conducted the drive led by 48 BGB Battalion’s deputy commander Major Md Nurul Huda near Radhanagar and Islampur borders at Gowainghat upazila in the district from 10:00pm on Monday to 10:00am on Tuesday and seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods, including India made clothes, cosmetics, medicines and chocolates worth around Tk 8,02,31,150, the BGB officials said.   


The smuggled goods included 2,907 pieces of saris, 1,162 pieces of Kashmiri shawls, 413 pieces of three-piece ladies’ dresses, 12,435 metre of cloth of different kinds, 1,160 metre of cloth for blazers, 1,556 metre of cloth for sofa cover, 44,722 items of cosmetics, 1,669 pieces of Pond Face Wash, 612 pieces of baby lotion, 2,62,990 bars of chocolate, 13,260 pieces of E-vitamin capsule and some other India made products, the taskforce said. 

The BGB 48 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Hafizur Rahman confirmed the news of conducting the drive and seizure of the smuggled goods.

He told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· in the afternoon that the process of taking action in this respect was under way.
