Leaders of different political parties on Monday at a discussion said that the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus should rule the country on the basis of national unity of the political parties.

The interim government should work for the implementation of sprit of the recent student-people movement and they should hand the power to an elected government after undertaking some reforms within a short time, they said.


Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, a partner of Ganatantra Mancha, organised the discussion titled ‘80 days of the interim government and its challenges’ at the Dhaka Reporters Unity where general secretary of the party Saiful Huq chaired.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that political parties had already reached consensus on the issue of reforms and general elections.

The interim government should work for the holding next general elections following some reforms within a justified time.

Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna praised the interim government for ruling the country properly.

Saiful Huq in his introductory speech said that the interim government failed to reduce price hikes of the essential commodities and control law and order of the country.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that after the fall of the fascist Sheikh Hasina government, now the people want democratic transition of the ruling system through a credible general election.

Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, Bangladesh Jasod general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, Amar Bangladesh Party member secretary Mojibur Rahman Monju, coordinator of 12-Party Alliance Ehsanul Huda, Rastra Sanskar Andolan central leader Emran Imon and others spoke at the discussion.
