Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury is unlikely to be included in the Bangladesh squad for their two FIFA international friendlies at home against the Maldives on November 13 and 16.
The 27-year-old Hamza is currently waiting to have final clearance from the FIFA players’ status committee to complete the procedure of being eligible to represent Bangladesh.
He received the Bangladeshi passport in late August before getting the no-objection certificate from the England Football Association in mid-September.
‘In November’s FIFA window, we will play two friendlies against the Maldives on November 13 and 16 at home,’ Bangladesh Football Federation’s general secretary Emran Hossain Tushar told the media on Saturday.
‘We have already started discussion with the Bashundhara Kings authority to host the matches at the Kings Arena,’ he added.
Emran also stated that BFF received invitations from two countries—Malaysia and Thailand—to play a single match during the window, but they chose to host the Maldives due to the amount of matches and reasonable expenses.
Hamza may not be eligible for the Bangladesh national team during the November FIFA window, even if he receives clearance from FIFA owing to injury.
‘About Hamza’s availability in the November window, you all know about his injury. We would only be able to say anything about it after talking to him,’ Emran replied to a query about Hamza’s availability in the friendlies.
’We have got feedback from FIFA about Hamza. They asked to provide some additional documents. We are working on it and had discussion with him, his family, and his agent to provide those as soon as possible,’ he added.
