Home affairs adviser lieutenant general (retired) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Thursday affirmed that Durga Puja would be held smoothly and peacefully across Bangladesh.

‘Different law enforcing agencies, including RAB, police, army, air force and navy units have been deployed for ensuring security,’ he told journalists after visiting Dhakeshwari national temple in the city.


‘Highest security will be ensured across the country on the occasion of Durga Puja,’ Jahangir said, seeking all-out cooperation from everybody in this regard.

He said that no untoward incident happened so far anywhere in the country during the ongoing Durga Puja.

The adviser said that the interim government had made first ever highest donation of Tk 4 crore for celebrating the puja this year. Previously the size of the donation was Tk 2 to 3 crore.  

He urged the law enforcing agencies to follow the eight-point instructions given by the ministry of home affairs to maintain security during the festival.

Mahanagar Sarbaoanin Puja Committee president Jayanta Kumar Deb and Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad general secretary Santos Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
