The Rajshahi Speedy Tribunal on Tuesday sentenced nine people to life-term imprisonment in jail for killing a retired army member in 2023.
Judge Md Mohiduzzaman pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicts, said senior public prosecutor Entazul Haque Babu.
He said that the court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each and, in default of which they would have to serve six more months in jail.
According to the prosecution, the victim Altaf Hossain, a resident of Durgapur area in Godagari, had a long-standing feud with his brother Isahak Ali over a piece of land.
Isahak along with his son, daughter, and hired goons attacked Altaf鈥檚 house, beat and stabbed him, leaving him critically injured on May 3, 2023.
Altaf succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on May 6.
The PP Entazul Haque Babu said that a murder case was filed with the Godagari police station, and the investigation officer submitted a charge sheet in the case naming 10 accused.
He said that the court sentenced the nine convicts as one of the convicts passed away during the trial.
