
Manon Reja became the country鈥檚 youngest International Master, surpassing Niaz Morshed, after achieving his third IM norm with a win over Indian IM Sambit Panda in the eighth round of the SixDays Budapest Two Years 2024 GM A in Hungary on Friday.
Win the win Manon earned six points from eight matches in this tournament that helped him to earn the required third and final IM norm to become the IM with 2419 rating points.
Manon, born on June 18, 2010, achieved the record at the age of 14 years and three months, whereas the country鈥檚 first GM, Niaz Morshed, born on May 13, 1966, got his IM title on October 13, 1981, at the age of 15 years and five months.
Niaz became the GM in 1986.聽
鈥楴eer earned his IM title today [Friday] after winning his eighth round game, 鈥橞angladesh Chess Federation member Mahmuda Aktet Moly told the media from Hungary.
He needed a win against FM Balarzs Pesztor of Hungary on Saturday鈥檚 ninth and final round to earn his first GM norm from this tournament.
The boy from Narayanganj earned his first IM norm in the 21st Bangkok Chess Club Open in April before securing the second IM norm in the Saif Powertech 48th Chess Championship in July 2024.
Manon earned his FIDE Master title in 2023.聽
