Ousted prime minister鈥檚 principal secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, former youth and sports ministry secretary Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, and former Khulna-4 lawmaker Abdus Salam Murshedy were remanded in separate cases on Wednesday.

Besides, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested former lawmaker for Kushtia-4 constituency Abdur Rouf and former Noakhali lawmaker Ekramul Karim Chowdhury from Dhaka and Chattogram.


Additionally, Nasa group chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder, former AL lawmaker Shah Md Nabi Ullah Panna were remanded in separate murder cases while Hasina鈥檚 former private industry affairs adviser Salman F Rahman was put on fresh remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain placed Naser on four-day remand and Mesbah on three-day remand in two separate cases, Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported.

Naser was remanded in the case lodged with the capital鈥檚 Paltan Police Station over the killing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party activist Mokbul, while Mesbah was remanded in the case filed over the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim.

Detective Branch of police in separate raids arrested Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and Mesbah Uddin Ahmed from different parts of the capital early Wednesday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akteruzzaman placed Murshedy on a two-day remand as police produced him before the court and pleaded for a 10-day remand.

He was also the former senior vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation.

RAB detained Murshedy from Basundhara residential area on Tuesday night in connection with the case filed over the killing of garment worker Rubel.

RAB arrested two former lawmakers from Dhaka and Chattogram districts in connection with cases filed over attacks on student-people during the anti-quota movement.

RAB personnel rounded up Abdur Rouf, former Kushtia-4 constituency lawmaker, from the capital city鈥檚 Mirpur area early Wednesday, while Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, ex-lawmaker of Noakhali-4, from Khulshi of Chattogram district on Tuesday night, said sources at RAB media and legal wing.

Chairman of Nasa group Nazrul Islam Majumder was placed on a seven-day remand in connection with Emon murder case under Jatrabari police station.

Nazrul Islam Majumder, also the former chairman of Exim Bank limited, was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Anisur Rahman with a prayer for granting him 10 days police remand.

Nazrul Islam Majumder was arrested by the detective branch of police from city鈥檚 Gulshan area on Tuesday night.

Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Soyebur Rahman granted five-day remand to former AL Rangpur city unit vice-president Md Nabi Ullah Panna.

Panna was remanded in a case filed over the murder of fruit seller Merajul.

Earlier, a special police team from Kotwali police station in Rangapur arrested Panna from his residence in Khamarpara area of the city early Wednesday.

Salman F Rahman was put on fresh seven-day remand in two separate cases.

Dhaka Judicial Magistrate M Saiful Islam passed the order as police produced Rahman before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in each case.

The court put him on a four-day remand in the case filed with Nababganj Police Station and a three-day remand with Dohar Police Station.

The court also showed Salman F Rahman arrested in two more cases filed with Dohar Police Station.

Meanwhile, police arrested five AL and Jatiya Shramik League leaders and activists on Tuesday night from Turag, on the outskirts of the capital city, in two separate murder cases.

The arrested are Dhaka North Jatiya Shramik League president Mamun Mia, Ward 54 AL vice-president Md Abdul Motalib and activists Sabbir, Maruf and Ibrahim, police said.

They were arrested for killing of two persons including a student in separate attacks on protesters during the anti-quota protests in Uttara in the city.

The victims were Nurul Afsar, a student and Sanjid Hossain Mridha. They were shot dead during the movement in Uttara on August 5.
