Rain had the final say in the opening day of the second and final Test between India and Bangladesh, as only 35 overs were possible at the Green Park in Kanpur on Friday.

Bangladesh scored 107-3 with Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim batting on 40 and six runs, respectively.聽

After an overnight shower, the toss and the start of the game was delayed by one hour due to wet outfield.

Going with different tactics than Bangladesh, India captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl in an overcast condition.聽

Playing with an unchanged XI from Chennai and with three seamers, India chose to bowl first in a home Test for the first time since 2015.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said that they would have batted first had he won the toss.聽

Shadman Islam started positively, though his opening partner Zakir Hossain struggled to find any runs. Out of the first 26 runs of Bangladesh innings, Zakir made none.聽

Finally the left-hander was caught at gully off Akash Deep after being squared up as Yashashvi Jaiswal took a fine low catch.

Zakir鈥檚 24-ball duck is the longest such innings by a top-order (1-3) batter from Bangladesh in terms of balls faced.聽

Shadman failed to capitalise on the start he got. He was trapped by an angling delivery off Akash as he missed the flick.

India got the wicket with review, though the initial replay was not convincing at all. Shadman scored 24 off 36.聽

At 29-2, and under a cloudy sky, the batting horror from Chennai glimpsed to Bangladesh. A fifty partnership from Mominul and Shanto for the third wicket on either side of lunch took the visitors to a more comfortable position.聽

The restart of play after lunch was delayed again due to a wet outfield. Ravichandran Ashwin then made Shanto pay the price as the Bangladesh captain played with the wrong line to a ball that beat his inside-edge.

Shanto took the review but had to go.聽

Until that point, Shanto seemed to be quite comfortable against both pace and spin. He hit six boundaries in his 31.聽

Mominul, who played some crisp shots off the pacers and hit seven fours against them, remained unbeaten.

India burnt their second review against him as one delivery off Akash pitched outside leg as per ball tracking technology.聽

Only nine overs were possible after lunch as the umpires took the players off due to bad light. But subsequent rain forced the day to be called off even before the tea break had taken.聽

Bangladesh, after losing the first Test in Chennai by a big margin, are seeking redemption against India as they have never beaten them yet.聽

They made two changes in the XI as pacer Khaled Ahmed and left arm spinner Taijul Islam came in the places of Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.

So, along with Shakib, who might be playing in his final Test, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh are playing with three front line spinners while India are playing with two.聽
