
A Khulna court on Tuesday acquitted the secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and former lawmaker professor Mia Golam Parwar and the party鈥檚 48 other leaders and activists of the cases, filed against them under Special Power Act, sabotage and explosives, as the allegations were not proved.
Additional district and session judge court judge Neela Karmokar acquitted them of the charges in presence of the accused after examining 19 witnesses.
Md Abu Yousuf Molla, lawyer of the accused, said that police filed a case with Dumuria police station against 18 persons, including Mizanur Rahman and others unidentified people after recovering a bomb and Islamic books from Bamondia area of Dumuria upazila before general election in 2018.
Later, Golam Parwar was shown arrested in the case and landed in jail.
On December 20, 2018, police pressed charge sheet before the court against 50 persons, including Parwar, in two cases, showing 30 witnesses.
Later, the court dropped Isahaq Ali, the then amir of Dumuria upazila unit of Jamaat as he died during the trial.
Another lawyer of Khulna judge court Shafiqul Islam Liton said that the court acquitted all the accused of false cases, filed by police in cooperation with Awami Legue leaders.
Expressing satisfaction over the verdict professor Mia Golam Parwar said that the cases were political and motivated.
He also hoped that he would get true justice in all false cases, filed against him during Awami League government.
Later, professor Golam Parwar was received with bouquet by the leaders of Khulna district bar association as he visited the BAR office.
