The Dhaka metropolitan senior special judge court on Monday issued an international travel ban on former Awami league lawmaker Solaiman Hoque Jorader and his wife Aktari Joarder on charge of amassing illegal wealth.
Judge Mohammed Ash Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after Anti-Corruption Commission director Md Rafiquzzaman in a petition sought聽the travel ban, said ACC public relations officer Aktarul Islam.
There are corruption allegations against the couple but they are trying to flee the country, and, this is why a travel ban is needed to prevent them from leaving the country for the sake of a fair probe, ACC public prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam told the court.
The court, in its order, also asked the Special Police Superintendent [immigration-administration] and the special branch of police to take necessary measures so that they could not leave the country.
Earlier, the ACC took a decision for conducting an inquiry against Solaiman Haque Joarder, a former lawmaker of Chuadanga-1 constituency, over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through embezzling public money and misusing his power.
