Syed Salahuddin Zaki.

Today is the first anniversary of the death of filmmaker Syed Salahuddin Zaki.

Born on August 26, 1946 in Tangail, Syed Salahuddin Zaki began writing scripts of plays during his student life.


The first film of Salahuddin Zaki titled Ghuddi was released in 1980, and he won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Dialogue for the film.

One of the founding members of Dhaka Theatre, Zaki’s house was a sanctuary for freedom fighters who conducted different operations in Dhaka during the War of Independence.

He joined Bangladesh Film Development Corporation as operative director in 1981. Later, he served as director general of Bangladesh Television for five years from 1996.

He also served as chief executive officer of SATV for few years.

Salahuddin Zaki’s notable films include ‘Lal Benarsi’ and ‘Aina Bibir Pala’.

For his contribution to film, he was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2021.

Syed Salahuddin Zaki passed away on September 19 in 2023.
