A visual archive of the July Revolution in Bangladesh titled 36 July is under way at two separate venues in Germany.

The two exhibitions are being jointly curated by Sadya Mizan and Ruxmini Reckvana Q Choudhury.

The main exhibition is being held at HuMbasepartout-Stuttgart from September 12 to 20 while the second part of the exhibition is ongoing at WunderKammer which will remain open till November 14.

The exhibitions featuring multidisciplinary works by various artists from Bangladesh aim to serve as a platform for recognising contributions of artist activists to the quota reform movement and to archive the historical discourse of the 36 days of revolution for future generations.

The exhibitions comprise photo documentations, illustrations, graffiti, cartoons, digital works, audio and paintings by Bangladeshi artists for global awareness, shared dialogue and solidarity with the student-led mass uprising.

‘The student movement started as a protest against the quota system in government jobs, which eventually turned into a massive revolution that reformed the history of the country. A large number of student protesters, a large pool of artists, musicians, and all other creative workers contributed significantly to the movement, using their talents and expressions,’ said Sadya Mizan.

‘The exhibitions are trying to recognise contributions of artist activists to the protest and an impulse to archive the historic discourse of those 36 days of the movement for future generations,’ she added.

Debashish Chakrabarty, Shadat Mahbub, Mohammad Shahadat Hossain,  Afsana Zhumpa, Ahmed Rasel, Fouzia Mahin Choudhury,  Helal Samrat, Imtiaz Alam Beg, Mehedi Haque, Monirul Alam, Morshed Mishu, Mosfiqur Rahman Johan, Rafi Nur, Sultan Ishtiaque, Suvra Kanti Das, Swilin Haque, Syed Muhammad Zakir, Toufiqul Emon, are among the contributing artists of the exhibitions.

With support of the Akademie Schloss Solitude, the exhibitions are being held in cooperation with Humbasepartout, WunderKammer, earki, Bangladesh Cartoonist Association and Oberwelt.
