Mahbub Ahmed Sadek

Today is the fourth anniversary of the death of National Film Award-winning actor, playwright and director Mahbub Ahmed Sadek, who is popularly known by his stage name Sadek Bachchu.

Born on January 1, 1955 at Haziganj in Chandpur, Sadek Bachchu was one of the founders of the theatre troupe ‘Matijheel Theatre’. He acted in plays such as ‘Kafoner Pocket Nai’, ‘Cap’ and ‘Kulangar’


He made his small screen debut with ‘Pratham Angikar’, which was aired on BTV in 1978. He made his silver screen debut with Shahidul Amin-directed film ‘Ramer Sumati’ in 1985.

He acted in a number of small screen productions aired on BTV, including ‘Granthik Gano Kahe’, ‘Jonaki Jwale’, ‘Sojan Badhiar Ghat’, ‘Purba Ratri Purba Din’ and ‘Nakshi Kanthar Math’.

He carved out a niche for himself in the film industry portraying negative characters. He received huge response acting in films, including ‘Sujan Sakhi’, ‘Ananda Ashru’, ‘Amar Swapna Amar Sangsar’, ‘Mahua Sundari’, ‘Ekti Cinemar Galpa’, ‘Jiban Nadir Tire’, ‘Pita Matar Amanat’, ‘Mayer Chokh’, ‘Badhubaran’, ‘Lal Badsha’, ‘Maran Kamar’, ‘Sahasi Manush Chai’, and ‘Lobhe Paap Paape Mrityu’.  

He received the National Award in 2018 for best performance in a negative role for the film ‘Ekti Cinemar Galpa’.

Sadek Bachchu died on September 14, 2020 while undergoing treatment for Covid at a Dhaka hospital.
