
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh detained one person with 11 gold bars from Satkhira鈥檚 Bhomra Lakshidari border area on Thursday.
The detainee is Zakir Hossain, 31, son of Arijul Molla from Lakshidari village in Bhomra union.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB-33 conducted a drive in the area on Thursday night and caught Zakir who was trying to smuggle 11 gold bars into India, said its captain Ashraful Haque.
He said that 11 gold bars were recovered wrapped in a towel around the arrested man鈥檚 waist, weighing around 1.5 kg.
The estimated market value of the gold is Tk 1,60,70, 528.
A case has been filed at Satkhira Sadar police station and the process of depositing the gold bars at the treasury office is under way, added the BGB official.
