The Jagannath University Reform Movement representatives on Thursday at the secretariat held a meeting with education secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid to press home their demand for the appointment of a vice-chancellor from within the university. 聽

The representatives expressed their concerns about the long-standing absence of a VC from within the JnU, stating that despite the university being established 19 years ago, no VC had been appointed from within the university.

They also emphasised that this lack of leadership had prevented sustainable solutions to the university鈥檚 problems.

As the university is now running without the VC, the absence of the VC is disrupting both academic and administrative operations, they said.

Mentioning the universities of the country have had their VCs appointed, they expressed dissatisfaction about the appointment of VC of the JnU.

They also highlighted that there were currently 159 professors at the JnU, including 38 grade-1 professors, and many of whom had served in prominent administrative roles at other public universities.

They said that their faculty members were fully qualified to serve as vice-chancellor and called for the swift appointment of a student-friendly VC from among them.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdur Rashid assured the students that the appointment of a vice-chancellor would be made soon, noting that they were working on it and considering all aspects.
